Many spaces, particularly exhibition halls and sports stadia have a large number of television screens that can be used for showing anything from advertising to live TV coverage.

Historically, these were connected together by a network of video distribution amplifiers and coaxial cable. This often resulted in a less than perfect picture due to the limitations of the analogue UHF broadcast systems available. In order to improve picture quality, the only answer was often to replace the entire system which is both costly and inconvenient.

Now with the advent of Digital modulators it is possible to send high-definition digital video and images to an unlimited number of screens as long as they contain DVBT (or DVBT2) compatible tuners (pretty much every television manufactured in the last 5 years does) using pre-existing coaxial systems.

Shine Systems has partnered with ProVideoInstruments to supply their VeCOAX range of digital modulators. At the most basic level, they can distribute a single (HD or SD) channel over existing coaxial cabling. This channel will then be available on the EPG (electronic programme guide) of all televisions. For more complex requirements, up to 4 channels can be created from different video sources per unit and units can be "daisy-chained" to provide an almost unlimited number of channels.

Many of the VeCOAX products also provide IP streaming and can "multicast" streams to simple IP STB (set top box) devices. We have used the Amino range of IP STB devices and have found their stability and ease of configuration to be second to none.

We have successfully implemented the VeCOAX Xpress range of products in this scenario (one to approximately 100 screens) and our customers have been amazed when snowy poor quality pictures are replaced with crystal clear HD quality ones!
